- "Dans le pays de toutes les raretés par des circonstances les plus improbables, vers les sommets les plus hauts du monde, vous allez rencontrer une espèce en danger, qui risque demain de disparaître et sur laquelle vous allez vous-même changer votre jugement : la plus précieuse de toutes les raretés, l'espèce humaine", Michel Serres. Au 12ème siècle, quelques lamas Bönpo ont quitté le Tibet pour venir se réfugier à Lubra, au Mustang. Ce petit royaume fait partie à présent du Népal. La religion Bön avait prédominé au Tibet pendant plusieurs siècles avant d'être supplantée par le bouddhisme. Les descendants de ces lamas pratiquent chaque année « l'exorcisme du cosmos », une survivance de traditions restées intactes pour purifier leur village. Tout est alors prétexte aux jeux, aux rires et à la fête.

In the 12th century, some Bönpo lamas left Tibet to take refuge in Lubra, in Mustang. This small kingdom is now part of Nepal. The Bön religion had predominated in Tibet for several centuries before being supplanted by Buddhism. The descendants of these lamas practice every year the "exorcism of the cosmos", a survival of traditions that have remained intact to purify their village. Everything is then a pretext for games, laughter and celebration.
