Summary:
After days of travelling, a despondent Jane collapses outside the home of the Rivers family and is offered shelter. She conceals her true identity and gives her name as Jane Elliott. When her health is restored, St. John Rivers appoints her as a teacher to his newly established Girls' school for the poor.
