Summary:
The celebrated Russian quartet pays tribute to the colourful composer from whom they took their name. After a spirited rendition of the String Quartet No 1 in A, the four turn their attention to the String Quartet in D. The piece is probably best known for its nocturne which has attracted arrangers from Rimsky-Korsakov to Sir Malcolm Sargent. The Borodin Quartet play the complete original version which the composer dedicated to his wife on the 20th anniversary of their first meeting.
