- In October 1902, a new issue of McClure's Magazine hit the newsstands. The popular monthly had built a reputation on publishing the best literature of the day. Now it introduced a new style of probing journalism to its demanding readers. McClure's core of crusading journalists became torchbearers for social change in the United States. Empowering Progressive Era reforms by exposing the worst of turn-of-the-century America to a nation that was beginning to demand change.
