- Summary:
- The video introduces state-of-the-art endoscopic assisted neurosurgery techniques including a description of the cylinder retractor surgical applications. Endoscopy is now regularly used in the treatment of hydrocephalus and sellar lesions, as the endoscope is less invasive and can provide an enhanced field of view even in narrow surgical corridors. The use of the cylindrical retractor serves to minimize the risk of retraction injury to the brain while creating a direct approach to the lesion. However, endoscopic cylinder surgery requires adequate knowledge and mastery of specific surgical techniques and use of instruments for safe surgery. This video describes the case of a 53 year-old man suffering from dizziness and double vision, diagnosed with a brainstem cavernous malformation (CM) and referred to our department for surgical treatment. Viewers will easily be able to learn techniques for accomplishing safe, reliable cylinder surgery.
