- Set in the small town of Highbury, Emma portrays the often hilarious attempts of Jane Austen's famous character Emma Woodhouse to find proper marital matches for all of her friends. Though she is often mistaken in her judgement, she is counseled and criticised by her neighbour and brother-in-law, the wise Mr. Knightley - whose attentions are motivated by more than brotherly love.
