- Summary:
- The Jewish community of Neuwied was established in the 18th century. Pp. 273-369, "Zum Holocaust-Stationen der Neuwieder Juden", give an account of the Nazi period: the boycott, antisemitic incitement in the press, the "Kristallnacht" pogrom in 1938, and the plundering of Jewish property. In July 1942 about 200 Jews from Neuwied and its surrounding area were deported. Gives a list of the victims of the Holocaust from this region. Focuses, also, on the trial which took place in January 1951 against those who attacked Jews and set fire to the synagogue during the "Kristallnacht" pogrom. Only two out of 24 defendants were sentenced to short terms of imprisonment.
