Summary:
One of the most beautiful carnivals in Latin America and the world framed in the festivals of agriculture and the myth of Saturn, god of agriculture, and Janus, god of the seed, is the Carnaval de Negros y Blancos de San Juan de Pasto, festival that is celebrated by tradition since the time of the Colony in America -17th and 18th centuries-, associated with the tradition of the gods of the indigenous cultures of the Andes: Pasto and Quillancinga. This research project is carried out on the coasts of the Colombian Pacific, in one of the most beautiful and remote regions along its coastal coast and lowlands of Cauca: the Patía Valley. In this inter-Andean valley, a cultural tradition of more than 200 years is safeguarded: the the Carnaval de negros y blancos (Black and White Carnival) in San Juan de Pasto in south-western Colombia, Inscribed in 2009 (4.COM) on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The research seeks to exalt the presence of the black communities of the Patía Valley in the south of the country, their culture and folklore as an identity process of transformation of the Afro-descendant population in Colombia evidencing the recognition, presence and incursion of these minority groups in a transgressive space that promotes and represents the living memory of the Colombian Pacific, where new diverse and analogous discursive practices are reconstructed.
