Summary:
Lizette appears to be dazed and exhibits flat affect. She reports she is no longer anxious because she took her prescribed anxiety medication prior to the session, and it has immediate effects on her functioning. The provider assesses the frequency with which Lizette is taking the “as needed” medication, and she reveals she is taking it daily (often multiple times a day) to prevent a potential panic attack. She also reports mixing the medication with alcohol about two times a week prior to having to be around people. Lizette explains that she will only engage in treatment via telehealth because she fears having a panic attack while leaving her home to go to an in-person session. The provider explains the importance of refraining from taking the medication prior to sessions while Lizette is engaging in an evidence-based treatment for panic disorder.
