Summary:
One of the preeminent cellists of our day, Gautier Capuçon has performed with the world's greatest orchestras, excelling in chamber and concert repertoire. Join him for an impeccable program from Paris's Fondation Louis Vuitton—the very place where he created his renowned Classe d’Excellence de Violoncelle in 2014! Gautier Capuçon joins award-winning pianist Franck Braley in interpreting four works by Beethoven, including two of his beloved Cello Sonatas: first, No. 1 in F Major, an early Beethoven work characterized by its structural freedom and bewitching energy, allowing the piano and cello to engage in playful dialogue. Next is the famed Cello Sonata No. 3 in A, one of the most treasured chamber works ever written, a longtime favorite of cellists and audiences alike. Capuçon and Braley also propose two charming sets of variations by Beethoven: one on Handel's richly comforting theme from Judas Maccabaeus and the other on "Ein Mädchen oder Weibchen" from The Magic Flute, demonstrating the variety of Beethoven's repertoire and of the talent of these two performers.
