The principal not reimbursable without the consent of the owner hereof, before the first day of [blank] 18[blank]. This Certificate shall be transferable at the Office of the City Treasurer by the owner in person, or by Attorney upon the surrender thereof to the Treasurer. Summary:
Bond issued containing an upper central vignette and smaller, bordering vignettes. Central vignette depicts the State House, old City Hall and Congress Hall. View includes pedestrian traffic. Border vignettes depict framed, bust-length portraits of George Washington, Henry Clay, Benjamin Franklin and William Penn and vignettes symbolic of work and commerce. Vignettes show a blacksmith leaning on his anvil, a peasant woman carrying a bundle of wheat on her head, a locomotive, and a scene on a dock with a shipping merchant and a ship's captain conversing in front of stevedores loading a horse-drawn cart. Also includes a vignette view of the Wire Bridge at Fairmount (removed 1874) and an ornamental border.
