"Letters primarily from Samuel Smiles to John Murray IV, with a few to John Murray III, Robert Cooke and Hallam Murray. Letters concern work in progress on Smiles' biography of John Murray II, "A publisher and his friends", with mention also of "Life and labour", and reprints of earlier works. Includes several items referencing the publication of specific cantos of Byron's "Don Juan" and the burning of Byron's memoirs, alongside other questions about John Murray II's life and work; some letters include detailed annotations, probably of John Murray IV. They are arranged in chronological order."
