- "Letters primarily from Samuel Smiles to John Murray III, with some correspondence to Robert Cooke and John Murray IV. Correspondence concerns works of Smiles published by Murray, including "Character" and "Thrift", biographical writings on Boulton and Watt, a biography of John Murray II called "A publisher and his friends", and "A boy's voyage around the world" written by Samuel Smiles the younger and edited by his father. Also includes a title page from Smiles' "Robert Dick: Geologist and botanist" and a stranger's request for a work on David Livingstone. The letters are arranged in chronological order."
