- Summary:
- Many assignments at university or college have similar components such as introduction, main body, and conclusion. Irrelevant of your subject, much of completing an assignment successfully is in the planning. This is the reason for my creating this Skill. This Skill is designed to help you refine your assignment planning techniques and create appropriate assignment templates for supporting you when planning, organising, and writing up your work. It's also intended to help you feel more confident you've addressed all the major points required by your assignment, in the correct order, when you arrive at the point of submitting your completed work. Ensuring you have completed the following list of tasks is a skill you can and will learn over time: followed the guidance your tutor or instructor has given you, adhered to the correct formatting guidelines, appropriately developed key themes, included everything you need to include, maintained a logical order of presentation, answered any questions you have been asked. You will also become confident with your ability in these skills, but it can be rather daunting while you are learning them. Different types of assignments do require different templates or elements and it's not always easy to find a full list of everything you need to include in each assignment type. So, another part of this Skill is about supporting you with identifying which type of assignment you may have and the many general requirements of the different types of assignments, highlighting the key differences of each section and what that means to your assignment plan and requirements. This then means you are able to consider how to write each section in order, to correctly cover the appropriate elements in as much depth as required by your assignment and check your work actually answers your assignment brief. Often the most nerve-racking time when working on an assignment is the moment just before you submit it. It is hoped this section, by helping you plan more rigorously and ensuring you include everything you need, will help you feel more confident submitting your assignment. You will get the most out of this material if you have a few of your past writing assignments available for review.
