- Summary:
- According to recent surveys, family businesses represent 90% of the total number of companies in Egypt, with 80% of the national income, and employ 75% of the labor force. The case addresses the challenges faced by MOG (Port Said for Metal Work), which are mainly attributed to the past experience of MOG Group, the parent company. Due to a lack of governance and institutionalization, MOG was separated into smaller companies, leading to a dilution of wealth and some family disputes. The case covers the history of MOG Group, its founding and growth into one of the largest manufacturers of a portfolio of products in Egypt, and finally its separation. It addresses the challenges related to a family business, including governance, separation of ownership from management, and succession planning.
