The hospitality industry has experienced rapid globalization in the 21st century. One of the main segments of the industry is event planning and management. From corporate events to personal ones, the growing importance of planning and managing events has transformed the industry and has given rise to an increasing number of platform- and ecosystem-driven companies. These types of new companies tended to originate from the developed world, but they are now increasingly being established in emerging markets as well. Alpha 360 is an example of such a company. Founded in late 2019 in Bangladesh, it seeks to create an events marketplace serving as an end-to-end solution for customers managing events. This case describes how Alpha 360 engages in ecosystem development in hospitality management and discusses the role of ecosystems in event management from strategic, marketing, and management perspectives. Students will learn about the role of collaboration in opportunity creation in the event management industry and advise Alpha 360 on how best to address its current challenges.
