- Summary:
- Organizations are responsible for creating inclusive cultures, especially in developing and retaining talent while ensuring the needs of all employees are met. Some organizations have created programs that focus specifically on the needs of women as well as diversity-based groups. This trend can be attributed to increased media and cultural attention on ensuring balanced workforces along with considering financial, brand, and legal implications. Technology companies have historically faced challenges with hiring, developing, retaining, and advancing women. Although business leaders may appreciate the mission and intent of such groups, some fear that these programs can indicate discrimination and harassment issues within the organization. This case outlines the potential challenge of defending the establishment of such a group to senior leadership after considering the data and employee feedback supporting the need for it.
