The Corporation of Journey-men Weavers was established in the summer of 1726, to protect the interest of the journeymen as opposed to the masters, who dominated the Weaver's Guild.
The catch sung by the weavers on this occasion alluded to the fact that Swift, as M. B. Drapier, had played a leading part in frustrating William Wood's attempt to coin and import inferior copper specie to Ireland.
