- Summary:
- "The negative effects of ethnocentrism, genderism, and heterosexism in health care workplaces are underexplored. Additionally, conflicts within the workplace due to IQism - a bias against individuals with very high IQs - have not yet entered into public discussion. Yet, health care personnel, according to current research, is inclusive of large numbers of persons with IQs that place them within three standard deviations from the norms. These individuals often experience circumstances that constrain their output. Second, when various "isms" are discussed in health care human resource management and/or health care management textbooks, the primary focus is compliance with current laws that forbid discrimination, as well as recommending cultural competency training for workers during the onboarding process or as part of the organization's employee development training. Third, health care human resources and/or health management textbooks bypass the complex trans-disciplinary variables which interact to generate and sustain the active operation of "isms" in the workplace"-- Provided by publisher.
