Summary:
This volume contains papers presented at 2023 2nd Empathy-Centric Design Workshop (EmpathiCH 2023) which were held on April 23, 2023 in Hamburg, Germany. This year we received 16 paper submissions from across the world, 11 high-quality papers were accepted, and 10 are published in these proceedings. Each contributed paper was rigorously Peer-reviewed (double-blind) by at least three reviewers who were drawn from a large pool of technical committee members as well as other international reviewers in related fields. EmpathiCH workshop aims to bring together and blend a diverse set of expertise to develop a new research agenda in the context of "Empathy-Centric Design" Building on the discussions that emerged in the previous edition (organized in New Orleans in April 2022), the main research objective is to form a comprehensive and coherent framework that utilizes empathy as a new dimension of human-factors research and practice. We aim to consolidate the existing theoretical and conceptual constructs of empathy from diverse domains to reflect on its temporality, materiality, and the risks related to its instrumentalization. With a mix of author panels, expert discussion, and interactive activities, we aim to make this workshop the ideal venue to foster collaboration, expand the community, and shape the future direction of "Empathy-Centric Design." The success of EmpathiCH 2023 depends on the contributions of many individuals and organizations. We thank all authors who submitted their work to the conference. The quality of submissions this year was very high and we are pleased with the quality of the review process. We would also like to thank the members of the Technical Program Committee for their valuable time in reviewing the manuscripts and providing useful feedback to the authors. We would like to thank the committed volunteers and members of our advisory board for helping to develop an engaging technical program for the day of the workshop. Finally, we thank the keynote and panel speakers for bringing their own experience and creating such a fruitful discussion. Finally, no conference will succeed without the strong support of its participants. We would like to thank all the authors and attendees for participating in the conference. We wish you a stimulating and fruitful time at the conference, and a memorable experience in Hamburg.
