- Summary:
- In 2021, the centenary of the birth of Frans Krajcberg (1921-2017) was commemorated. Polish, naturalized Brazilian, undoubtedly was an artist who throughout his life was a strong voice for the preservation of the environment. Frans Krajcberg, a Polish immigrant, suffered the horrors of war and arrived in Brazil in 1948. It was in Rio de Janeiro where he produced his first works, fruits of direct contact with nature. Krajcberg had a great resistance to talking about his childhood and his youth in Europe. "Frans Krajcberg: Natureza em preto e branco" (Nature in Black and White), curated by Max Perlingeiro comprises a selection of sculptures, paintings and works on paper, such as his emblematic reliefs, celebrate this pioneering artist in the defense of the environment. In dialogue with his works will be the photographic essay made in 1996 in his home in Nova Viçosa, Bahia by Luiz Garrido, his old friend. With images of the works of Frans Kracberg and the photographs taken by Luiz Garrido, the edition includes texts by Marcia Barrozo do Amaral, President of the Associação de Amigos de Frans Krajcberg; Galciani Neves, Max Perlingeiro, Bené Fonteles, Jaider Esbell, and Pierre Restany, an interview of Advânio Lessa given toValquíria Prates, regarding the artist's chronology.
