- Summary:
- On June 30 of 2022, Emanoel Araujo inaugurated, in the Museo Afro-Brasil (now Museo Afro-Brasil "Emanoel Araujo"), what would be his last exhibition presenting the artwork of 28 women artists and photographers present in the collection of the institution. The 86 works on display are the work of: Adriana Medeiros, Andrea Fiamenghi, Carla Osório, Cícera Fonseca da Silva (Ciça), Cláudia Andujar, Cristina Barroso, Cristina Mendes, Edwige Aplogan, Fernanda Castro, Gracia Barrios, Guta Galli, Lita Cerqueira, Madalena dos Santos Reilbolt, Manuela Pimentel, Maria Auxiliadora da Silva, Maria Cândido Monteiro, Maria de Lurdes Cândido, Maria do Socorro Cândido, Maria Lídia Magliani, Maureen Bisilliat, Nair Benedicto, Noemisa Batista dos Santos, Rochelle Costi, Rosa Gauditano, Rosa Paulino, Sachiko Koshikoku, Sônia Gomes and Yêdamaria. Anticipating some constructive reforms that were about to start in the Pavillion Manoel da Nóbrega, main building of the museum -and that would last months and would interrupt the curatorial commemoration activities of the 18th anniversary of the institution and the same time of the Month of Black Conscience-, the founder and then curator of the museum since its opening, some weeks before, started his curatorial process, so familiar with those who work daily with him for years, some fore decades. "The exhibition was inaugurated on July 30 in what is known as the "Espaço Mestre Didi", commemorating the International Black Latin American and Caribbean Women's Day (July 25), the last exhibition conceived and curated by Emanoel Araujo. "It tells much of what were his last months of life and work - two things that, in him, have always been amalgamated. Months of exchange, of listening, of clashes (as it could not fail to be), but above all, of sharing with these multiple women and so many voices that surrounded him in his farewell.".
