Summary:
The assessment begins with the clinician asking Ali about the recent breakup with her fiancée Ryan. Ryan ended the relationship because he believed Ali had a problem with alcohol. The news has clearly affected Ali, who feels blindsided by this breakup. Since the relationship ended, Ali has felt that life is bleak. She describes an inability to sleep, not caring about food, and losing pleasure in activities she used to enjoy, such as hiking and going to concerts. The breakup has also complicated her work life, as she and Ryan are colleagues teaching at the same school. Ali doesn't want to engage in friendships and feels there is no one she can talk to about these problems. Ali describes the void left by her fiancée as a sense of hopeless but does not think about suicide or consider it an option.
