- Summary:
- Growing up, Ali lived with an alcoholic father and a very strict mother. She recalls many times when voices were raised and her having a sense of walking on eggshells with her mother whereas her father was unavailable because of his addiction. Many times, Ali's mother would lock her and her sister in their room for hours at a time, which Ali now considers as probably for the best as it kept them from witnessing a lot of her parent's discord. These problems at home started when Ali was 9 or 10, when her father had a falling out with her uncle over a business and he subsequently lost his job. After his unemployment, the family fell into financial difficulties and a loss of stability. Today, her parents continue to have a strained relationship and Ali remains distant.
