Summary:
Five photographic series that gives an account of the Purépecha celebration of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, in Charapan, a Tarasco town in the Sierra de Michoacán. The photographic collection offers a narrative of the way in which a party that, with ups and downs, has been held for at least 250 years is currently taking place. When the date is approaching, the people involved know "what it is their turn" and what their role will be, either before, on the eve or during the party. An important group is that of girls and girls who are part of the dances de wanánchiicha (guananchas), wárhiicha (guares) and tunics. This intervention represents an offering to the Virgin, at the same time that they bring color and meaning to the celebration with their youthful presence. Different moments of the party were captured in 2019 by anthropologists Catalina Rodríguez Lazcano and Carlos García Mora.
