- The book exposes that the social relations that are managed between artists, critics, gallerists and cultural employees that constitute the foundation of legitimation the cultural consecration of every work of art. From the twenties to the decade of the sixties (20th century), countless historical testimonies exemplify the construction of consensus and dissent referring to the definition and attribution of aesthetic values that correspond to the different artistic paradigms. In order to conquer, exercise or dispute the power of consecration, the agents resort to political praxis, that is, to their association and concerted mobilization. Hence, the history of the artistic field cannot be explained without the constitution of groups, trends, movements that are mobilized discursively (declarations, texts, movements, groups), in order to consecrate the artistic paradigm that represents their economic and symbolic interests. It states that the social relations that are developed between artists, critics, gallerists and cultural officials constitute the basis of legitimation or cultural consecration of any work of art.
