Summary:
This is a manuscript of the cabalistic Siddur Rashash (also known as Siddur ha-Kavvanot) with selections from the Ari rite; the first section of liturgy is the Kaddish (f. 1r-2v), Minḥah (f. 3v-10r, with Kavvanot additions for Friday afternoon and for Minḥah preceding Passover), the Amidah (f. 11r-67r), Priestly Blessing (f. 67v-73r), the commentary on the Amidah by Yedidyah Refaʼel Ḥai Abulʻafiya (1807-1869; referred in the manuscript as "ha-rav ravin ḥasida ha-Y.A.R.E.H. z.a.l."; f. 74r-89v); Kavvanot on Psalms XL:17 (f. 90r-91r); the Amidah for Musaf on Passover (f. 91r-92v); Hallel (f. 92v-96v); Musaf Amidah for Rosh Hodesh (f. 97r-98v); and a prayer for drought (f. 99r-100v). Remnants of paper wrapper surviving in the contemporary binding suggest that this is a composite manuscript in which pieces of the Siddur Rashash were selected at a later time; written in the style of the scribes at Yeshivat Bei El in the Old City of Jerusalem. Liturgical and Kavvanot sections written mostly in two columns (each blind-ruled with vertical bounding lines); written in a Moroccan-Jerusalemite calligraphic script (liturgical text) and Sephardic semicursive text (instruction, Abulʻafiya commentary); partially vocalized and punctuated on specific Kavvanot; columns of Divine Names justified by exaggerating letters (such as f. 49v, 50r). Certain folios with smudging and fingerprints; bound in a contemporary full-leather binding with gilt-designed circumferential borders and blind-tooled circular patterns in boards.
