- "American Antiquarian Society Copy Notes: American Antiquarian Society copy has paper note signed by "H.C.S." alluding to the price (2.50) of the book paid to bookseller Alfred Goldsmith. According to the note, Goldsmith had been told [by McLoughlin Bros.?] that the firm was operating in Springfield, Mass. in 1942; when Goldsmith contacted McLoughlin Bros., he received a letter from the firm dated Sept. 23, 1942 saying that this edition was published in an edition of 2000 copies in Sept. 1905, and was out of print by 1907. This information from Goldsmith is inaccurate regarding the imprint date, as McLoughlin Bros. was established in New York in 1858, and moved to Springfield, Mass. in 1920, upon its sale to game manufacturer Milton Bradley; cf. Radiant with color & art: McLoughlin Brothers and the business of picture books (2017), p.11-31."--Home page.
