Summary:
Description: This interview with Peter Hames (Clerk 1997 and Livery 1995) begins by referencing Hames' initial interview for an advertised roles of Clerk at the Stationers' Company. Although he had little knowledge of the Company he was successful and began his new post on August 1st, 1984 after a forty year career with the Royal Navy. Hames proceeds to reflect upon his initial tasks and responsibilities as Clerk and the numerous staffing and financial issues of the Company that he was presented with. Changes made to the maintenance, organisation, and staffing of the Stationers' Hall are then noted, as are the dismissal of disinterested Liverymen. Some amusing and detailed remarks and anecdotes are also relayed relative to fellow members and prominent figures met during his time with the Company.
