Description: This interview with Arthur Buckwell (Livery 1977) begins with an account of winning a scholarship to attend the Stationers' Company School in 1924. Buckwell also reflects upon his memories of the Silvertown explosion in World War I and the general hardships of living during the war. Buckwell goes on to detail his experience at the Stationers' Company School, fellow students, the houses, and serving as the guard of honour in the Lord mayor's show. His career, beginning with his work for a cable company, to his eventual career as a Printer's reader, are also noted, with Buckwell describing in depth his difficulty entering the printing trade, his duties, and the reputation of readers.
