- Description: Printed for the Company of Stationers. between title page and page 1: authorisation for printing, given by Ri[chard] Rainsford and Fra[ncis] North [Lord Chief Justices of England], 16 Feb 1678. pages 1-2: statement from Heneage Finch [Lord Chancellor of England], Richard Rainsford and Francis North that they had 'seen, read and examined' the following acts and ordinances of the Stationers' Company.pages 3-25: 'Orders, Rules and Ordinances' of the Company.pages 25-27: oaths of the Master, Wardens, freemen, Clerk, Beadle and Assistants.page 27-28: ratification of the ordinances by Heneage Finch, Richard Rainsford and Francis North.Attached to front pastedown is a typescript label reading 'By-Laws. Orders, Rules and Ordinances of the Company, as first printed in 1678'. Written on this, possibly in the hand of Sidney Hodgson, is an annotation reading 'The only copy of the Original Edition we possess. Later - The bill for printing, cost of paper &c. added [100 copies printed]'.Attached to a front endpaper is a bill from John Macock to Warden Vere for printing between Sep 1677-Feb 1678, with a statement acknowledging receipt of the full sum of money from Warden Vere, 12 Jul 1678.Inserted in back endpapers are accounts and receipts:1. list of payments made to Mr Lilley, Sep 1681, which were then given to Lord Chief Justice North and his clerk for signing the Byelaws, Lord Chief Justice Pemberton and his clerk for signing the Byelaws, and Mr Saunders, and the sum spent on going to see Justice Pemberton at the Three Tuns with the Master present.2. receipt recording payment of printing charges from Warden Tyton to John Macock, 15 Oct 1680.3. receipt recording payment from Warden Tyton to John Macock for printing an advertisement for the second publication of the Byelaws, 5 Jul 1681.Inserted between back endpaper and pastedown are 2 documents:1. typescript note reading 'Orders, Rules and Ordinances of the Stationers' Company, printed in 1678, with the original bill from Thomas [sic] Macock the printer for 1000 copies for which he charged £3 4s. 0d.'.2. handwritten note reading 'Orders Rules & Ordinances Original Edition 1678 with the original bill for printing this volume, by John Macock [who left us a silver gilt Loving Cup]'.
