Summary:

The Indian School Journal appeared in two formats with quite different content (from 1921 to 1934 the two were published simultaneously). The monthly version (1900-1934) was an illustrated magazine (averaging 50+ pages) of the Office of Indian Affairs (OIA) with news about Indians, about the Indian Service, and Chilocco itself. Edited by the Chilocco superintendent, authors included OIA staff, missionaries, and others; it also featured articles reprinted from mission newsletters, newspapers across the country, and periodicals such as Harper's. The weekly version was written and produced by Chilocco students about Chilocco, featuring news about sports teams, social events, and employees. Throughout the tenure of the weekly ISJ content was strictly supervised and controlled by school staff.
