- Summary:
- Originally entitled 'Intertribal Council of Nevada Newsletter', this publication began life as the official organ of the Council of the same name; established in 1964, organisation membership comprised federally recognised tribes of Nevada. A year later, in 1965, its name changed to The Native Nevadan. Despite broadening their audience, the newspaper aimed to promote cohesion and communication, and continued to place emphasis on topics concerning Nevada's Indigenous populations. Civic issues would also be covered in depth; articles on voting, education and housing issues were common, and at times critical, exposing substandard facilities. Letters to the Editor were prominent, as were columns on history, sports and legal issues affecting the Indigenous community. Editors included Carole Wright, Bob Shaw and Elmer D. Miller. Wright was instrumental in the founding of the American Indian Press Association.
