- Donald McKayle (born July 6, 1930, New York City) is an African American modern dancer, choreographer, teacher, director and writer best known for creating socially conscious concert works during the 1950s and 60s that focus on expressing the human condition and more specifically, the black experience in America. 'Rainbow Round my Shoulder' Choreographed by: Donald McKayle. Performed by seven dancers, including Donald McKayle, May Hinkson, and Alfred DeSio and others. With singer Leon Bibb; music arranged by Robert Corman and Milton Okun. 'They Called Her Moses' Choreographed by Donald McKayle. Performance by Donald McKyle with Jacqueline Walcott, Robert Powell, Sylvia Waters, Arthur Mitchell, Kathleen Stanford and Carmen de Lavallade. The music includes singing of "Follow the Drinking Gourd", "Wade In the Water", "Let My People Go", "Been in the Storm So Long". .
