- Summary:
- An exceptional concert featuring not less than twelve female singers coming from around the globe to perform in the stunning greek theatre of Taormina, in Sicily. Ideally located in front of the sea, with a splendid view over the Etna, the greek theatre of Taormina is one of Sicily's milestones. Every summer, concerts and other performances still take place in this uncomparable set. In 2001, 12 renowned divas of song from all over the world gathered for the "Festival of the Last Prima Donnas." This festival celebrated the talents of American soprano Jessye Norman, the "Voice of America" Ami Koita, Dee Dee Bridgewater, regarded as the "new Ella Fitzgerald," Israeli pop singer Noa and her Palestinian counterpart Amal Murkus, as well as Esma Reszepova, known as the "Edith Piaf of the Gypsies," and Neapolitan singer Lina Sastri "the incarnation of Italy's songs."
