Summary:
During a huge concert in Leipzig, the greatest jazzmen and classical musicians celebrate Bach. In 2000 a huge musical celebration in honour of Bach was performed in front of thousands of people in the superb market place in Leipzig just in front of Saint Thomas Church where Johann Sebastian Bach worked from 1723 until his death in 1750. Leipzig could do no less to commemorate the two hundred and fiftieth anniversary of its Cantor. "24 hours with Bach" was the name given to this very special concert which brought together musicians from different backgrounds, such as jazz, brass bands or ... classical music. Succeeding one another on stage are violinist Gil Shaham accompanied by the Gewandhausorchester of Leipzig, the French jazzman Jacques Loussier and his trio, brass bands, a choir singing a cappella (the King's Singers) and the brilliant improviser Bobby McFerrin. They all make Bach's music their own like the standards, needlessly proving that this music is still alive two hundred and fifty years after the death of its composer.
