- Summary:
- Rare are the artists that share the stature of Hugh Masekela, the legend and father of South African jazz, who left us in 2018. Meet him on the stunning stage of the Parc floral de Paris, during the 2015 Paris Jazz Festival, one of his last appearances in France, and seize the opportunity to (re- )discover an artist with a communicative passion and thirst for life. The music of Hugh Masekela follows the frame of his life, light yet tumultuous, sweet yet poignant. Singer, composer, a player of the bugle and other brass instruments, his love for jazz blooms early and his exploits in a South Africa marked by racist turmoil attract the eye of luminaries such as Louis Armstrong, who sends him his own trumpet. His standard Bring Him Back Home is considered to this day as a symbol of the struggle against Apartheid.
