Summary:
Gary Peacock began playing bass while in the United States army, in Germany in the mid 1950s, in New York where he played alongside Miles Davis and later Japan where he was introduced to Zen philosophy. After being discharged, he studied biology before committing himself totally to a career as a musician and composer. Since the 1960s, Miles Davis and Archie Shepp have both had a habit of calling on the legendary bassist, and his place within the Keith Jarrett's Standards trio, created in 1993 with Jack DeJohnette, ensured his international renown. At eighty, the double bass legend, who has seemingly traversed the entire history of jazz on his musical journey since the early 60s, returns to the stage alongside pianist Marc Copland and drummer Joey Baron, two years after their album Now This. Here, on Tangents, they play a previously unreleased version of Miles Davis' "Blue In Green" and cover a theme from Spartacus.
