Summary:
Learn more about Mathilde Monnier, French contemporary dance choreographer. Mathilde Monnier was born in Mulhouse in 1959, and grew up in Morocco. She studied at the Centre national de danse contemporaine d'Angers and soon got involved in the choreographies of François Verret, the man she married. After collaborating with Jean-François Duroure for a few creations, she carried on with her career and founded the Hexe company in 1984. In 1994, she became director of the Centre chorégraphique national de Montpellier. Not only a choreographer, she also got involved in actions dealing with autism, in Africa and in France (Montpellier). In this documentary, Mathilde Monnier explains many of the personal choices she had to make, but also her vision of what dance can achieve, her profession, her relationship with the dancers of her company and her way of creating. As a contemporary artist, she also talks about more social issues such as politics and the place of art in our society.
