Summary:
Two fiery artists: Gautier Capuçon and Yuja Wang perform chamber music together live on medici.tv! The Verbier Festival discovered the both of them when they were still extremely young; because of their incredible talent and charisma, Gautier Capuçon and Yuja Wang have become two iconic musicians of the festival. Everybody remembers Yuja's stunning rendition of the Flight of the Bumblebee in that very same church in 2008. Gautier Capuçon also left his mark at the festival, notably with last year's Concerto for cello by Saint-Saëns. These extraordinary musicians gather to perform works by Shostakovich, Rachmaninov and Piazzolla. In this concert, they perform Shostakovich's unique Sonata for cello and piano (1934), and Rachmaninov's Cello and piano sonata as well (1901), one of the few chamber music pieces ever written by the Russian composer. Astor Piazzolla is highlighted for the end of this concert, with his Grand Tango for cello and piano, a work both characterized by traditional tango and jazzy rhythms.
