Summary:
Research on the life and work of one of the most interesting cases among the traveling artists who arrived in Mexico in the 19th century: that of the architect Carl Nebel (Germany 1805-1855). His attraction to Mexico arose from his readings of Humboldt's work, whom he later met personally. It is not known exactly how he arrived, but in 1829 he was in Mexico for the first time; and it was here that he made friends with the explorer and antiquarian Jean Frederic Maximilien Waldeck (France 1766-1875) and like this, Nebel also collected various pre-Hispanic pieces. "It can be said with complete certainty that in the first half of the 19th century there is no artist more copied than Carl Nebel." (HKB Translation) --Page 15.
