Summary:
This visual document represents an analogy about depression -emotional and psychological- of people with the depression suffered by their territory -physical and environmental- due to exploitation and extractivism. The population of Zaruma in the Province of El Oro in Ecuador since pre-Hispanic times has had a political, social and economic interest since it is an important gold deposit. The usufruct of mineral resources and the exploitation of human labor by international and national companies have been recorded in the collective memory among the inhabitants of this area. "Over the course of 2017 in a village called Zaruma in the south of Ecuador, the school "La Inmaculada Fe y Alegría" (Immaculate Faith and Joy) collapsed into a huge hole. "It's falling apart before our eyes" said Mariuxi Cango, the school director. In this self-destructive search for gold, I found in the territory of Zaruma a mirror image of my own state of mind at the time. The village seemed to be a metaphor for my own depression." . The collection AñZ, Expanded Photography of Latin America, is a project carried out by Raya Editorial and Matiz Taller Editorial, a printing company in Manizales. The letters on the cover change and the container will always be fixed. There will be 27 volumes: from A to Z. The collection explores the idea of "expanded photography".
