Summary:
This book delves into the knowledge of a paradigmatic patrimonial work of Chilean architecture: the church of the Benedictine Monastery of the Holy Trinity (Spanish: Monasterio Benedictino de la Santísima Trinidad de Las Condes), a Benedictine monastery in Las Condes, Santiago Province, Chile. The church (1962/64), designed by the Benedictine monks Martín Correa Prieto and Gabriel Guarda, it is a paradigmatic work of Latin American architecture. It has been the first modern work declared a national monument in Chile (1981), being recently awarded the prize "Obra Bicentenario" (2009). As a genealogical report, a review of the precedents of the project is proposed, thus qualifying the historiographical analysis that the work has had on its Le Corbusier filiation. From the precedents studied, focused on the architectural understanding of liturgical requirements, three aspects are stated that are considered central in the case study. aspects that will continue to be fully valid for contemporary sacred architecture: "light as a generator of form", the "dramatization of the liturgical act" and architecture as a "symbolic machine".
