Summary:
This collection draws on records from other series spread throughout the Foreign Office files. These include selected files from the record series of the Control Office for Germany and Austria and Foreign Office Control Commission for Germany; Foreign Office and Foreign and Commonwealth Office Embassy and Consulate; the Foreign Office's (and predecessors') Allied Commission for Austria and Control Commission for Germany; the Foreign Office's Consular Department, Vatican Legation, Treaty Department, German Section's Finance Department, and Private Office Papers of Sir Anthony Eden, and Intergovernmental Committee on Political Refugees (Berenger Committee). From the many angles offered by these various departments, commission, and individuals' correspondence, researchers can explore the myriad political issues and discussions of the time, examining how they intersect with the history of forced migration and the policy responses to refugee situations. Of special interest will be the direct comparison scholars can make to materials from the U.S. State Department's own initiatives.
