Summary:
This research is the first biographical essay on Pablo Suarez, one of the most important Argentine artists of the 20th century. Based on the author's master's thesis, the book studies the work of Pablo Suárez in relation to his positions inside and outside the field of art and politics and his links with institutions and criticism. In different historical moments, Suárez knew how to reinvent himself: in the sixties he participated in the avant-garde and then went on to political action in the classist CGTA (1968); In the seventies with his realistic work and his catalogs of innocuous appearance he contaminated the field of art with political signals. His turn towards the grotesque in the eighties culminated with his polychrome sculptures of the nineties loaded with parodic critiques towards art and society. He was part of the CCRR and with its chongos provoked a pacified heteronormative society. When the neoliberal decade made its worst crisis, it represented at the center of the aseptic art galleries the victims and the socially excluded of the model. The author resorted to numerous documentary sources, (catalogs, reviews, press releases) and oral testimonies (interviews) and made or a descriptive and interpretative analysis of several of his numerous works, "as well as unknown aspects of his life: his myths of art forger, his militancy in left-wing Peronism and works and catalogs, full of encrypted messages and ideological proposals that got filtered during the dictatorship."
