Summary:
Aztatlán is an example of ancient globalization in the American continent, since it represents an interpretation of flows of goods, arts, and information between many societies in an unusually wide area, impacting them technologically, symbolically and organizationally. It coincides with the spread of metallurgy and copper and bronze artifacts, with an abundant exchange of valuable goods, with surprising new styles embodied in ceramics and other media, as well as the construction of different cultural spaces. Although archaeologists have been aware of this phenomenon since the 1930s, they are just beginning to understand many of its aspects, from local developments to interregional synchronicities; Furthermore, new explanatory models continue to be explored. This volume shows the progress of various researchers, both archaeologists and ethnographers, in characterizing and defining Aztatlán in different geographic areas, supported by a range of conceptual frameworks and theoretical approaches. The editors carry out a systematic review of the impact of these contributions, following a space-time logic.
