Summary:
The German painter Ruth Baumgarte (1923-2013) is one of the outstanding female artists of the 20th century. The focus of the catalog is on the comprehensive body of her work, which is based on the artist's travels to African countries such as Egypt, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Sudan and Zimbabwe. Ruth Baumgarte was largely interested in the cultures foreign to a European artist at that time in a still undeveloped continent. Her paintings, watercolors and drawings unfold as an almost magical quality when you look at them. Central to understanding Ruth Baumgarte's work is the relationship between humans and nature, the merging of figure and landscape, as well as light and color.
