- 涵芬楼所藏为商务印书馆藏书中的宋元明旧刊暨抄校善本.一九三二年一,二八事变中,商务印书馆,东方图书馆遭日本侵略者轰炸和纵火,各类文献损失惨痛,而事先存于金城银行的善本书幸免于难.劫后,张元济先生将幸存善本取出,有宋元本近二百种,明本及校本八十余种,抄本稿本一百五十多种,为其撰写解题,名曰"烬余书录",鉴定版本,著录书名,撰者,避讳,刻工姓氏,题跋,藏书印鉴等信息.
