Summary:
A collective exhibition, within the framework of the bicentennial of Peru's indendence was exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art. The exhibition makes visible in a room in Lima painters representing popular workshops from different regions of the country. The pictorial and graphic exhibition, which illustrates historical and popular icons that are part of the visual identity of Peru, brings together 200 works by 77 painters from 16 regions of Peru, such as Lima, Piura, Apurímac, Loreto, Cajamarca, Ucayali and Cusco, among others. with a production of more than 200 works.within the framework of the bicentennial of Perus independence. This exhibition focuses on the multiplicity of forms of artistic expression that coincide in avast and complex territory. Despite being hit by the tragic pandemic and the Bicentenary'ssymbolic weight, creators have persisted in their vocation and achieved the survival oftheir art. This exhibition makes visible the work of these artists. "The project "Íconos peruanos (Peruvian icons), an initiative ofArmando Andrade, began in 2020 with the purpose of making visible the work of artists and painting workshops from various regions of Peru, within the framework of the Bicentennial of the National Independence. Each artist interpreted with his own style and gaze some identity reference of popular culture: a food product, a landscape, an animal, a hero or public figure. The exhibition "La resistencia del pincel " (The resistance of the brush) which is now presented in the MAC Lima is part of the activities of this project; its name is inspired by the Peruvian collective led by the painter Bernardino Ochoa, who meet in the Plaza 2 de Mayo in the city of Lima."
