Summary:
This is a manuscript of devotions (בקשות) in a Yemeni custom, likely originating as a bifolium of manuscript texts. Baḳashah le-R' Yishmaʻel ben Elishaʻ is pseudepigrapha attributed to Ishmael ben Elisha, the high priest (this prayer appears to have originated in the 17th century, printed in Binyamin Benish ben Yehudah Leib ha-kohen, Amtaḥat Binyamin (Wilhermsdorff, 1715-6, f. 5a-b), and this manuscript contains a number of variants); the devotion invokes the names of angels (more names are mentioned in this manuscript version; f. 2r-v) with the focus on Akatriel, angel of the presence (f. 2v; based upon the incident of Ishmael ben Elisha meeting this angel in the Holy of Holies, mentioned in a Baraita (Talmud Bavli, Berakhot 7a)). Tefilat ha-parnasah is a prayer for sustenance (f. 3v-4v) and Baḳashah naʼeh ʻal galut ha-Sheḥinah is a devotion on the Jewish exile, beginning יונה יונה (based upon Judah ha-Levi's מה לאחותי; Davidson 417) and ending with Israel Najara's Yah ribon ʻolam (f. 5v-6r).
